Driving Without a License in New Jersey

New Jersey Traffic Ticket Lawyer

Under New Jersey statutes, "No person shall drive a motor vehicle...unless the person is under supervision while participating in a behind-the-wheel driving course...or is in possession of a validated permit, or a provisional or basic driver's license issued to him...." If you violate this law, you face fines, suspension of your license and time spent in jail. Please note that the applicable laws also pertain to those who are found to be driving with a suspended license as well. In our state, your license can be suspended for driving without insurance, too many points on your driving record, conviction on a DWI charge, failure to pay fines or surcharges or having multiple traffic violations.

Penalties for driving without a license will include a fine of up to $500 or a jail sentence of up to sixty days, and if the person charged never held a driver's license the fine will be at least $200 and he or she will be barred from receiving a license for a minimum of 180 days. The driver will also have to pay a $100 surcharge for three years.

Penalties for Driving without a License

Specific penalties for driving without a license can include a fine of $500 and up to 60 days in the county jail. You may also have to pay a surcharge of $100 per year, for 3 years, if you are found guilty of driving without a license but had one at an earlier date. If you are a juvenile, the fine is a minimum of $200. In addition, you will not be able to apply for your license until 6 months after you become eligible. At times, these penalties apply when a person held a valid license in another state but no longer does.
